The Mothering and Albinism research project is a partner of the Africa Albinism Network (AAN), aiming to protect and promote the rights of persons with albinism and their families.
Recently, the AAN published a video featuring a decade of collective progress of the albinism movement, highlighting key milestones in Africa and globally. The video starts with describing how the attacks on persons with albinism were brought to public concern through journalist Vicky Ntetema. This led to a steam of immediate actions by the United Nations including the adoption of the first Resolution on persons with albinism in 2013, proclaiming June 13th as International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD), and establishing the mandate on albinism in 2015. Over the years, continuous progress has been made by persons with albinism and their families, communities, advocates, non-governmental organizations and civil society organizations, educators, researchers, and governments to address the human rights violations experienced by persons with albinism and ensure their full and equal participation.
We are privileged to be a part of the albinism movement and we will continue to make contributions to strengthening this movement so that no one, including persons with albinism, is left behind.
